Our Mission

Founded in 1977, Restore Oregon works on the front lines and behind the scenes to empower Oregonians to reimagine and transform their communities through the preservation and reuse of historic and cultural places. We believe in a vibrant and equitable Oregon where historic preservation and reuse are crucial to solving the problems we face locally, statewide, and globally. As a statewide, 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, Restore Oregon represents thousands of homeowners and renters, community activists, environmentalists, preservation-minded businesses, and supporters and users of historic places across Oregon. We advocate for effective preservation policies and incentives, deliver preservation-focused education programs, and directly intervene to save endangered places.

Older homes and revitalization projects require specialized services, materials, and attention by architects, contractors, and craftspeople. Our Business Member Directory helps connect property owners with the service providers that understand historic buildings.

Technical Assistance

Restore Oregon works with organizations and individuals to address threatened historic resources and developing strategies to address physical deterioration, often provided through the Oregon's Most Endangered Places Program.

Advocacy

Restore Oregon works at the state, and sometimes even local level, to influence the policies, programs, and funding mechanisms that make preservation and smart growth possible. Advocacy remains one of the primary activities of the organization because of the dramatic scale of its impact.

Restore Oregon’s mission is to empower Oregonians to reimagine and transform their communities through preservation and reuse of historic and cultural places. By investing time and resources in understanding the needs of Oregon’s rural communities, we can reframe what preservation means in rural Oregon and make a greater impact by creating and implementing innovative new tools and processes that can help solve rural challenges.
